Indictment Issued for Mohave Valley Fatal Crash

A Mohave Valley man, Anthony David Duarte, 30, was indicted by a grand jury on a manslaughter charge on Wednesday, accused of causing the death of a pedestrian with his car.

Duarte is scheduled for arraignment on the felony manslaughter charge on December 4 before Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen. He is currently held in the county jail on a $500,000 bond.

If convicted, a defendant with no criminal history could face a prison sentence ranging from seven to 21 years for manslaughter. However, a person with a previous felony conviction may face a longer sentence.

The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. on November 18 in the 2100 block of Palms Drive, as per the sheriff’s office. Deputies responding to the scene found the pedestrian inside Duarte’s home. The victim was transported to Mohave Valley hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Duarte was present at home when deputies arrived and reportedly provided conflicting statements, as reported by MCSO.

The sheriff’s office has not disclosed additional details about the fatality, including the name and age of the pedestrian, or whether Duarte was acquainted with the victim.
