Anticipation is building among New York Yankees fans as star pitcher Gerrit Cole moves closer to a major milestone in his rehabilitation from injury.
This season, Cole, a vital member of the Yankees’ pitching rotation, has unfortunately been unable to play due to an elbow injury. However, recent updates indicate that he is making progress towards a comeback. As per a report by Greg Joyce of the New York Post Sports, Cole is scheduled to have his third bullpen session on Saturday.
“Gerrit Cole has a bullpen session scheduled for Saturday, which will be his third. After that, he is expected to remain in Tampa to throw another session at the Yankees’ player development complex,” Joyce stated.
Although Cole’s comeback is expected to greatly benefit the Yankees, fans might have to wait a bit longer before seeing the results. Originally planned for a comeback in late May, the timeline has been revised to a more practical mid-to-late June return.
Even without Cole, the Yankees are still in the running, just half a game behind the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East. The upcoming arrival of Cole, along with the anticipated returns of fellow All-Star D.J. LeMahieu and promising young slugger Jasson Domínguez, indicates positive prospects for the team.
Amidst the challenges of the season, Yankees supporters are filled with optimism and are eagerly anticipating a deep postseason run. The impending return of Cole is seen as a source of encouragement and a beacon of hope for the team.
