A family from Delaware is expressing gratitude to first responders for their quick action in saving a woman’s life on Saturday. The family had been crabbing just south of Augustine Beach when their crab lines got tangled in the boat’s propellers.
As the winds shifted and the tide came in, the boat began to take on water and eventually flipped over. Donna Wallace was trapped inside the boat and remained stuck for about 40 minutes.
“I was underwater, but there was a pocket of air inside the cabin, so I stayed calm,” Wallace told Action News. “You just have to do what you need to do to survive.”
She could hear her husband talking, which reassured her that help was on the way. Rescue teams used a chainsaw to cut through the boat and free Wallace. Everyone was safe after the incident.
