California has sent 61 law enforcement officers to Wisconsin to help with security for the Republican National Convention.
This support was planned since May and organized by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.
Officers from Bakersfield, Fresno, and Long Beach police departments, along with 40 members of the California Highway Patrol, are being deployed to Milwaukee.
“Public safety goes beyond politics. California is proud to support our law enforcement partners in Wisconsin during this key political event. Together, we are ensuring a safe and secure environment for everyone at the Republican National Convention,” said California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The officers will join local, state, and federal law enforcement in managing crowds, controlling traffic, and ensuring public safety.
“It’s crucial to support our law enforcement colleagues in Wisconsin and ensure the safety of all participants at this important event,” said Nancy Ward, Cal OES Director. “California’s officers are well-trained for large-scale events, and we trust in their ability to strengthen security in Milwaukee.”
The Republican National Convention will take place in Milwaukee from Monday, July 15 to 18.
