Widespread Power Outages Hit West Virginia as Heavy Storms Cause Chaos

Heavy storms have caused widespread power outages in West Virginia and surrounding regions, with crews working to restore service. At the peak, nearly 12,000 customers were without power, primarily in West Virginia. By 7 p.m., the number of outages had dropped to 3,200 across West Virginia, Virginia, and Tennessee. Appalachian Power has made significant progress, restoring power to nearly 4,000 customers.

The hardest-hit counties in West Virginia include Kanawha, Logan, Mingo, Ohio, Roane, and Wayne counties. Outages were spread across several counties, with Boone County, Kanawha County, and Logan County experiencing the highest numbers.

MonPower reported significant outages in counties like Marion, Monongalia, and Webster. Kentucky Power also faced outages, particularly in Magoffin County, with over 700 customers impacted.

Crews are continuing their efforts to restore service, and the situation is ongoing as conditions improve.
