Gilbert, Arizona, is the perfect blend of small-town charm and urban sophistication. I grew up in Gilbert, only moving away to attend Arizona State University. I moved back at 24 years old and lived there for another 15 years, raising my young family at the time.
We spent plenty of time trying to figure out what to do each weekend and found Gilbert had plenty to do. Gilbert is a great place for culture enthusiasts, nature lovers, and foodies alike. Because of the close proximity to Scottsdale, Chandler, and the greater Phoenix area, you’ll find easy access to a variety of Arizona attractions you can enjoy.

When you’re in Gilbert, Arizona, you can’t miss visiting Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch. While not as iconic as the red rocks of Sedona, the Preserve is a fun experience for nature lovers. The 110-acre oasis features more than 200 species of birds, making it a must-see for bird watchers.
This is a fantastic stop if you’re looking for a run on some less crowded trails with a touch of nature, and it also makes a great location for young children to spend time outdoors. We frequented the Riparian preserve when our kids were little, and I would enjoy the occasional jog here in the fall afternoons.
The Preserve also features seven water basins, diverse wildlife, and sprawling nature trails, creating a sanctuary within the city! Whether you’re interested in hiking, photography, or looking at the stars from the on-site observatory, there’s something for everyone.
