Walmart customers in New York State may face a surprise at the checkout counter, as the retail giant tightens its grip on certain practices. As of 2022, there are reportedly 98 Walmart stores in the state, according to WalmartNearby.com.
The retail chain has recently implemented changes to its coupon policy, impacting many consumers in New York who have been accustomed to leveraging coupons for additional savings on Walmart’s already competitive prices. Walmart’s coupon policy had remained unchanged for six years until the shift, which took effect on September 24, 2023.
In an effort to assist customers in saving money and improving their lives, Walmart will continue to accept valid paper manufacturer coupons issued by the producers of the products they sell. However, these coupons must scan at the register and should not be expired, adhering to specific guidelines.
Noteworthy alterations include Walmart’s decision to no longer provide cash back or allow overages to be applied to other items in a transaction if the coupon’s discount exceeds the item’s value. Additionally, customers are now limited to using a maximum of four identical coupons per day.
A significant change highlighted by Coupons In the News is the discontinuation of overrides; managers will no longer intervene if a checkout scanner rejects a coupon.
Walmart’s updated coupon policy also outlines the following:
- Digital coupons on customers’ phones will not be accepted.
- Expired coupons will be rejected.
- Items must precisely match the size, brand, quantity, color, etc., or coupons will not be honored.
- Only one manufacturer coupon per item will be accepted.
- Coupons must successfully scan at the register.
