Utah Targets Air Quality Ahead of 2034 Olympics with New Truck Emissions Bill

Utah’s air quality is set to become a key focus as the state prepares for the 2034 Olympics.

A new bill, HB525, has been introduced with the goal of reducing emissions from older heavy-duty trucks along the Wasatch Front.

The bill aims to ban trucks made in 2009 or earlier from being registered starting in May, with an eventual full prohibition of these trucks by 2030, though exceptions will apply.

To incentivize the transition, the bill includes a tax credit for truck operators to help them replace their older vehicles with cleaner models.

The bill, introduced by Rep. Paul Cutler, R-Centerville, is expected to have a positive impact on air quality in the region, particularly in time for the 2034 Olympic Games.
