San Francisco – United Airlines positioned its latest premium offering front and center on one of its longest routes. The carrier opened bookings for Polaris 2.0 business class suites aboard Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners flying daily between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). Passengers can experience the upgrades starting with flight UA1 departing SFO on April 22, 2026, followed by UA2 from SIN on April 24.[1][2]
This rollout marks the first international deployment of the “United Elevated” interiors, a multi-billion-dollar push to redefine long-haul comfort on approximately 17-hour journeys. Three such aircraft already entered service earlier this year, setting the stage for broader network expansion.[1]

Travelers on these flights encountered a premium-heavy cabin layout that prioritizes space and seclusion. The configuration includes 64 Polaris seats in a 1-2-1 arrangement, surpassing previous setups on the route.[3]
Suites featured sliding privacy doors, though regulators delayed their operation at launch. Seats adopted a mix of reverse herringbone and standard herringbone designs, ensuring direct aisle access for every passenger. Custom Adient Aerospace Ascent models incorporated wool-blend upholstery, wood-grain trim, and quartzite tables for a residential feel.[1]
Studio Suites Offer Business Class Plus
Eight Polaris Studio suites occupied the bulkhead rows, each 25 percent larger than standard options. These spaces allowed companions to join via convertible ottomans, fostering shared dining or relaxation.[3]
Double-bed conversions became possible in select pairs with added mattress pads. United charged an extra $499 per segment for these seats on the SFO-SIN flights. Enhanced privacy came through taller dividers and personalized do-not-disturb lighting.[2]
Cutting-Edge Tech and Connectivity Transform the Experience
Every Polaris suite equipped passengers with 19-inch 4K OLED touchscreens, expanding to 27 inches in Studios. Bluetooth pairing enabled wireless headphone use, while wireless charging pads, USB-C ports, and AC outlets supported device needs.[1]
Starlink satellite Wi-Fi delivered gate-to-gate coverage, even over oceans, free across all cabins. Digital seat controls and Panasonic Astrova systems rounded out the innovations. Overhead bins expanded for easier storage, complemented by advanced air purification.[2]

Gourmet Dining and Soft Product Elevate Comfort
Polaris Studios introduced Ossetra caviar as an amuse-bouche, paired with Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé Champagne. Standard suites received regional menus with monthly rotations, new breads, and Aperol spritzes. A mid-cabin snack bar stocked Garrett’s popcorn, Community coffee, and Joe & Seph’s treats between services.[3]
Saks Fifth Avenue bedding included duvets, cooling gel pillows, and throws. Amenity kits featured Perricone MD skincare, while Studios added hoodie pajamas, Meridian noise-canceling headphones, slippers, and velvet pillows. United extended perks like priority boarding and lounge access to all Polaris guests.[1]

Ripple Effects for the United Network
London Heathrow received the product next, with UA901 from SFO on April 30 and UA900 return on May 1. United planned 30 such 787-9s by 2027, alongside Starlink on 800 aircraft. Existing widebodies faced potential retrofits, though details remained pending.[2]
Premium Plus refreshed with fixed headrest wings and 16-inch screens. Economy boasted 13-inch 4K displays – the largest among U.S. carriers – plus three entrée choices and appetizers. The shift reduced total seats to 222, emphasizing quality over quantity.[1]
- Polaris 2.0 debuts internationally on SFO-SIN, featuring privacy doors and Starlink Wi-Fi.
- Studio suites add caviar service and companion space for $499 extra.
