MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Joshua Smiley, a suspect in a Mobile murder, was recently extradited from Indiana to face capital murder charges connected to a 2021 shooting that took the life of 29-year-old Dillon Crum.
In August 2021, Mobile Police discovered Crum dead inside a residence on Amsterdam Street, launching a lengthy investigation that eventually identified Smiley as the primary suspect.
Smiley was subsequently placed on Mobile’s most wanted list and later added to the U.S. Marshals Service’s 15 Most Wanted list in June 2023. Just seven days after being listed, Smiley was apprehended in Indiana.
Beyond the Mobile case, Smiley faced legal issues in Indiana, where he violated a federal bond related to a drug charge in Fort Wayne.
He also served time for his involvement in a fatal shooting in Fort Wayne in 2018, receiving a five-year sentence with two years suspended.
Smiley, now held at Metro Jail in Mobile, is scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
