Two Men Charged in 2010 Cold Case Murder of Arkansas Man in New Jersey

Authorities in New Jersey have charged two men with murder in connection to the 2010 killing of a 22-year-old Arkansas man.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced on December 3, 2024, that Maurice Cole, 36, and Jerron Evans, 41, both from Lakewood, New Jersey, are accused of murdering Rondell Proctor, who was 22 at the time of his death.

The incident occurred on May 27, 2010, in Toms River, New Jersey. Around 12:45 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting at the Winteringham Village Apartments. Officers found Proctor with gunshot wounds to his face and torso. He was taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Toms River Police launched an investigation, but the case went unsolved for years.

Recent advancements in evidence testing, unavailable during the original investigation, allowed authorities to bring charges against Cole and Evans. Both men were arrested without incident on December 3, 2024, and now face murder charges in Proctor’s death.
