A woman from Bear, Delaware, who had been missing for several days, was found dead in a car over the weekend, according to police from Delaware and Maryland.
The search for 31-year-old Tracy Nyariki began on Friday night after her employer reported she hadn’t shown up for work. Police went to her apartment complex on Stone Place in Bear and found signs that raised concern about her safety. They couldn’t contact her, so they issued a Gold Alert.
These alerts are for missing people who are considered at risk, such as the elderly, children, or those with disabilities.
Detectives later learned that Nyariki was last seen on the morning of December 17 and identified 32-year-old Nobert Matara as a person of interest.
The two were acquaintances. While police didn’t explain how they linked Matara to the case, the Maryland police department referred to him as a possible suspect in a homicide.
Police worked with officers in Aberdeen, Maryland, and located Matara and his car. When they searched the car, they found human remains that had been dismembered. Matara was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
He is being held in Maryland while waiting to be sent back to Delaware for his court appearance. Additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
