Teamsters Union Secures Tentative Agreement for Casting Directors: Improved Wages and Conditions Ahead

The Teamsters union has reached a tentative agreement with major studios on behalf of about 700 casting directors, who had been negotiating for increased wages and better working conditions.

This marks a significant development as the union sought to establish minimum weekly wage rates for casting directors for the first time, as well as secure pension and health coverage for 91 newly unionized casting assistants.

Sherry Thomas, a member of the negotiation steering committee, expressed optimism about the outcome, stating, We really came together and made some wonderful steps in the right direction for the future of our profession.

Josh Ropiequet, another committee member, echoed this sentiment, saying they were unanimously recommending the contract.

While specific details of the agreement have not been disclosed, the union plans to hold an information meeting for members on Monday to discuss the terms and seek ratification.

The negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers began in late August, with talks intensifying as the contract expiration date approached on September 30.

The Teamsters union commended the efforts of its Local 399 and 817 Casting Negotiating Committee for their hard work throughout the negotiations and appreciated the support from Hollywood labor organizations.
