Suspect Arrested After Burned Remains of Missing Woman Found in San Jose Homeless Camp

San Jose police have arrested a suspect after the burned remains of a woman were found in a homeless encampment on August 19, according to a statement on Monday.

Officers responded to a call last Monday around 4:33 p.m. near Roberts Avenue and Vintage Way. A person reported finding the burned remains of their missing family member at the site.

Upon arrival, police confirmed the discovery and initiated an investigation, which suggested the woman had been murdered.

On Thursday, police arrested 39-year-old Jesus Casas in San Jose. He has been booked on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail.

Police are still investigating the motive and circumstances of the crime.

This marks San Jose’s 21st homicide of the year.
