The Soulshine benefit concert raised $4.5 million to help with hurricane recovery in North Carolina and Florida. The sold-out event was held on November 24 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Performers included the Warren Haynes Band, Dave Matthews Band, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and Goose, with special appearances by Trey Anastasio, Mavis Staples, Trombone Shorty, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, and others.
Warren Haynes, the event’s organizer, shared how deeply he was affected by the damage caused by Hurricane Helene to his hometown of Asheville and the surrounding areas in Western North Carolina.
He emphasized that while he usually hosts the Christmas Jam to support his community, this year they needed to do something different to help.
The funds raised will go to the SOULSHINE Concert Fund, managed by the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, which will distribute the money to local nonprofits in North Carolina and Florida.
