A dozen passengers have filed a lawsuit against Royal Caribbean and Arvin Joseph Mirasol, a former cabin steward involved in a voyeurism case. The suit, filed on December 30, 2024, in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, stems from Mirasol’s actions aboard the Symphony of the Seas during cruises in late 2023 and early 2024.
The passengers claim Mirasol secretly filmed them in their staterooms and bathrooms, with at least one victim being a minor.
Mirasol, arrested in March 2024, pled guilty to federal charges and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. The lawsuit accuses Royal Caribbean of negligence, particularly for failing to notify affected guests and withholding information to prevent them from pursuing civil suits.
The plaintiffs seek financial and punitive damages for physical and emotional distress, including PTSD and loss of enjoyment of life.
The case also highlights the potential scale of the incident, as Mirasol may have filmed over 900 victims during his time on the ship. The lawsuit criticizes the cruise line’s actions, alleging a breach of good faith for not informing passengers.
