Oklahoma Sees Record Surge in SNAP Card Cloning Fraud, Over 10,000 Cases in October

Special Agent Michael Adams highlighted a recent surge in theft involving cloned cards, with more than 10,000 cases of stolen Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program SNAP benefits reported in Oklahoma in October alone—marking the worst month for fraud since this activity began.

Adams explained that the fraudulent activity often involves overlay skimmers that fit over existing point-of-sale devices, making them challenging to detect.

Immediately change that PIN, Adams advised, stressing the need for individuals to monitor their accounts closely and act quickly if any suspicious activity appears.

Investigators recently discovered nine skimming devices but emphasized the ongoing difficulty in identifying and stopping these devices in real time.
