Officials Seek Help to Find Missing 12-Year-Old Girl Headed to Sacramento Area

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Authorities are searching for Tiana Carter, a 12-year-old girl who may be traveling to the Sacramento area. She was last seen around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Ventura County near Harper Drive and Santa Margarita Road.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has issued an Ebony Alert for Ventura, Stanislaus, San Joaquin, and Sacramento counties. Tiana is described as 5’8″ tall, weighing 187 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black and orange shirt and glasses.

Ebony Alerts, like Amber Alerts, are used to find missing Black girls and young women. California is the first state to use this system, following the signing of Senate Bill 673 by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The Black and Missing Foundation reports that 38% of missing persons in the U.S. are Black, but they are often not prioritized in Amber Alerts. This new alert system aims to address this disparity and improve efforts to locate missing Black children and young women.
