A Northern Virginia family is voicing concerns over an unexpectedly high toll fee for using the I-66 Express Lanes in their RV.
The Landry family, consisting of John, Julia, and their six children, were shocked to receive nearly $550 in toll charges for their round trip to Luray Caverns.
While they were aware of the potential for higher tolls for larger vehicles, they were not prepared for the substantial costs.
Despite filing a complaint, the I-66 Express Mobility Partners, responsible for toll collection, defended the charges, explaining that the tolls for three-axle RVs are often 5 to 7 times the standard amount during peak travel times.
The Virginia Department of Transportation VDOT added that this tolling structure is in line with their contract with the private toll operator.
John Landry has since escalated the matter to the Virginia Attorney General’s Office and the Better Business Bureau, seeking more transparency in toll pricing and hoping for better communication for future users, especially those in large vehicles.
