On Saturday, police departments across New Hampshire, including the Nashua Police Department, participated in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day by offering drop-off sites for old and unwanted prescriptions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The initiative aimed to prevent misuse of medications by providing a safe and easy way for residents to dispose of their drugs.
Lt. Matthew McConnell of the Nashua Police Narcotics Intelligence Division explained the process: So, they just pull right in, stop at the officer and turn in the pills.
We put them in a box, pack it up, then we hand it over to the DEA.” Following collection, the medications are securely incinerated to ensure safe disposal.
For those who missed the event, there are year-round drop-off sites available in New Hampshire for prescription drug disposal.
