On Saturday, House Speaker Mike Johnson R-LA strongly condemned the threats made against Democratic lawmakers, which were signed with MAGA.
On Thursday, several Democratic representatives from Connecticut received bomb threats in their mailboxes, with the message ending with MAGA. This came just days after President-elect Donald Trump’s top Cabinet nominees also received similar threats.
As a leading Republican, Johnson called the threats dangerous and insane, stressing that political opponents should not be seen as enemies, no matter their party affiliation. He made this statement in a post on X formerly Twitter.
The Connecticut lawmakers who received the threats included Reps. Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, Rosa DeLauro, and Sen. Chris Murphy.
President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that the FBI was investigating the threats.
This incident is part of a troubling rise in political violence during the 2024 election season. President-elect Donald Trump himself survived two assassination attempts, including one in July where he was shot in the ear, and another in September while he was playing golf in Florida.
