Frozen meals are a common commodity in Florida, available at local supermarkets offering an extensive range. Additionally, many supermarkets in the state provide convenient options like “grab and go” meals, as well as fresh deli and salad choices.
Previously, the delivery of these items to one’s doorstep was not as accessible until the rise in popularity of services like Istacart or DoorDash. Notably, Schwan’s Home Delivery, later rebranded as Yelloh (named after their delivery trucks’ color), used to be a primary source for frozen food deliveries.
Yelloh’s history dates back to 1953 when the owner, operating a creamery, initiated sales and deliveries using refrigerated trucks. Originally catering to rural customers, the company expanded its offerings over time, now including meats, seafood, complete meals, breakfast items, ice cream, desserts, and snacks.
In late October 2023, Yelloh announced significant changes, cutting 750 jobs and closing 90 delivery centers across the country. The company will continue operating in 18 states, with UPS taking over deliveries in other states. Unfortunately, Florida is not among the 18 states where Yelloh will maintain its delivery services.
The company attributed these closures to economic challenges, rising business costs, and the evolving post-pandemic landscape. Cygnus Home Services, LLC, operating as Yelloh, specified the closure of facilities and layoffs in various Florida locations, including Clearwater, Jacksonville, Lakeland, Pensacola, Punta Gorda, Sanford, San Antonio, and Summerfield.
Reflecting on Yelloh, a Bradenton resident expressed appreciation for the service, citing quick deliveries, excellent customer service, and high-quality food.
However, with the company’s closures, Floridians relying on Yelloh will need to turn to UPS for their deliveries, as Yelloh discontinues its operations, ceasing offices and home deliveries in the state by December 15, 2023.
