The Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana aims to connect people with meaningful causes while offering tax benefits. To further this mission, the Foundation will host a seminar on September 27 from 8 a.m. to noon at L’Auberge Casino Resort. This annual event provides continuing education for lawyers, financial advisors, and CPAs, helping them earn professional development credits and stay informed on the latest strategies.
Sara Judson, President and CEO, emphasizes that by equipping professionals with up-to-date information, the Foundation enhances philanthropic planning in the region. The seminar, featuring a nationally recognized expert each year, supports the growth of local philanthropy.
This year’s keynote speaker, Carlo Laurore, will discuss “Leveraging Charitable Planning Trends and Tactics to Create Sustainable Community Impact.” Laurore, Senior Vice President of Development for Scouting America and Executive Director of the National Boy Scouts of America Foundation, has a broad background in financial services and philanthropy. His role involves guiding major gifts and endowment strategies.
Laurore switched to philanthropy after experiencing the 2008 financial crisis and serving on a nonprofit board. He now helps donors integrate their financial plans with their philanthropic goals, aiming to maximize the impact of their contributions.
The seminar not only helps professionals stay updated but also allows them to engage with peers and discuss best practices. Blake Brignac, a certified financial planner, values the event for networking and learning about new tools and strategies.
Laurore’s keynote will include practical case studies and data to help participants apply new skills in their client work. He hopes to make complex information accessible and enjoyable, enhancing professionals’ expertise in charitable planning.
The seminar also prepares professionals for changes in the financial landscape, ensuring they can effectively adapt to new tax policies and industry trends.
Laurore believes that philanthropy is for everyone and aims to make knowledge about charitable giving more accessible. Even small donations can offer tax benefits, and well-informed financial professionals can help donors align their giving with their financial goals.
Overall, the Community Foundation’s educational efforts support local organizations and foster a culture of giving, ensuring a positive impact on the community.
