Maryland Governor Wes Moore was awarded a Bronze Star on Friday for his military service in Afghanistan.
The ceremony took place at the governor’s mansion in Annapolis. Moore’s friend and former commander, Lt. Gen. Michael R. Fenzel, presented the medal for Moore’s nearly yearlong deployment with the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.
The award comes after months of controversy over Moore’s military record. During his 2022 campaign for governor, it was revealed that Moore had not corrected interviewers when they mistakenly stated that he had received the Bronze Star.
The issue resurfaced this summer when The New York Times published a 2006 application Moore submitted for a White House fellowship, where he claimed to have received the award.
