A Virginia man, Lewis Wayne Snoots, has been sentenced to 71 months nearly six years in prison for his role in the January 6 Capitol riots, where he played a part in assaulting Officer Michael Fanone. During the attack, Fanone was dragged from a tunnel and brutally beaten by the mob.
Snoots was involved in restraining Fanone while rioters tased him, resulting in serious injuries, including a heart attack and traumatic brain injury. Prosecutors had requested the maximum sentence for Snoots, citing his significant role in the assault.
Despite the defense minimizing his involvement, the court found Snoots’ actions contributed directly to Fanone’s suffering.
The officer, who has since retired, attended the hearing and shared the emotional impact of the attack, describing it as a betrayal of his country.
