Iowa’s 1st Congressional District to Undergo Official Recount Observed by D.C. Election Monitors

The official recount of ballots for Iowa’s 1st Congressional District will be observed by Congressional Election Observers from Washington, D.C., as announced by House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil, R-Wis., on Tuesday.

The recount follows a request made by Iowa City Democrat Christina Bohannan, who is trailing Republican incumbent Mariannette Miller-Meeks by 802 votes based on unofficial results from the district’s 20 counties.

Despite the margin, Bohannan’s campaign emphasized the importance of the recount to ensure that every vote is accurately counted.

Each county in the district will establish a three-person recount board, with one member selected by each candidate and a third member agreed upon by both parties. The recount must be completed within 18 days of the canvass.

Steil highlighted that over 75 Congressional Election Observers have been sent to 67 congressional districts across the country, reflecting the House’s commitment to overseeing election processes for fairness and accuracy.
