A man from Arizona was sentenced to over 14 years in prison for his role in drug trafficking. Heriberto Lopez-Landeros, 44, from Avondale, pleaded guilty in August 2024 to possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.
Lopez-Landeros led a drug trafficking group that smuggled large amounts of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and heroin from Mexico to various places in the U.S. He hired semi-truck drivers to help transport the drugs, often hiding them in the truck cabs.
Over the course of a year and a half, investigators seized a significant amount of drugs linked to Lopez-Landeros. This included 83 kilograms of meth, 12 kilograms of fentanyl, and over 600 grams of heroin.
The investigation was carried out by the DEA, Homeland Security Investigations, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Avondale Police Department.
