While some people can’t wait to sleep beneath the stars with nothing but a sleeping bag and a crackling fire, others prefer to level up their camping style to what’s known as “glamping.” The term has been around for some time, and it was listed in the Oxford Dictionary in 2016, as per Strohboid, after it gained popularity among those interested in camping but without makeshift tents and bug-infested campsites.

Glamping is an elevated form of camping that involves cozy cabins or lavish tents with luxury accommodations. Think TVs, private bathrooms, full-size beds, and even some with a fully working kitchen. For many, RV camping is also considered glamping, as it offers many amenities similar to what you might have at home.

The United States is notorious for its glamping spots, and more campgrounds have offered the luxury experience in recent years as camping interest has soared. (We noted several great campgrounds for glamping in our recent article highlighting the Campspot award winners.) But which states are the best for glamping, giving campers the comforts of home in the great outdoors?

A new study conducted by Glamping Florida, by River Ranch, a Westgate camping resort in Florida, analyzed key factors to determine America’s glamping hotspots and help you choose your next camping getaway. They looked at each state’s glamping popularity based on the number of camping-related Google searches, climate conditions, the number of glamping accommodations offered, and the number of glamping destinations, according to Glamping.com. Below are their findings.

Florida

Florida landed at the top of the list with an overall score of 66.8 out of 100. Its year-round warm weather and ample sunlight (the average temperature is 72.5°F, and there are 371 hours of sunlight per month, as noted in the study) make the Sunshine State a sought-after destination for camping.

Because of this, Wikipedia reports that there are 3,613 family campsites in Florida State Parks and over 400 premier RV parks and campgrounds, per the 2025 Camp Florida Directory. The study calculated that there are 1,258 campsites with glamping accommodations in the state, and the demand for them remains high, based on the 20,129 Google searches every month on average for glamping-related terms and 16,445 for “Florida glamping” across the U.S.

Texas

Ranked second is Texas, which scored 66.2 out of 100, widely due to its warmer temperatures that generally fall around 66.8°F. According to the study, there’s also very little monthly rainfall (2.36 inches), leaving more opportunities for outdoor activities. Another perk is that Texas is home to 4,679 campsites with glamping facilities, the highest in the U.S.

With the abundance of camping options in the state, it’s no wonder there are 27,389 glamping-related monthly Google searches and 24,896 for “Texas glamping” throughout the U.S. on average. For adventure lovers, The Lone Star State also has some breathtaking national parks for those wanting to explore the area outside of their comfortable cabins.

Tennessee

Tennessee might be known for its bustling music scene and for being Elvis Presley’s homeland, but it’s also recognized for its many glamping hotspots. The state earned a score of 61.4 by Glamping Florida, and it’s not just for its famous barbecue.

The average temperature is a comfortable 59°F, and there are 1,883 campsites with glamping accommodations to choose from. One, specifically, Glamp x Stay Minty in the Smoky Mountains, is dedicated to giving its campers the ultimate glamping experience. Clearly, many people are seeking this kind of hideaway as there are 1,986 monthly Google searches for “Tennessee glamping” in the U.S. and an average of 6,445 monthly searches for glamping-related terms.

California

With the annual Coachella music festival coming up, many people are preparing to camp at the Indio, California event. However, the rest of the state is also widely known for its camping spots — particularly glamping, which is apparent with its 58.8 score in the study. One selling point is the cool 59.7°F average temperature. Another is the fact that there are a whopping 17 dedicated glamping destinations — more than anywhere else in the U.S.

Overall, California has 2,682 campsites with glamping accommodations, making it easier than ever to find everything you’d want in a campsite. Many are taking advantage of that, given there are 12,877 monthly national searches for “California glamping” and 43,756 searches for glamping-related terms in the state.

Maryland

Maryland is also a prime vacation spot for indulgent camping, racking up a 56.8 score and fifth place for the best states for glamping. While the number of campsites is considerably less than the other states higher on the list (only 378 campsites offering glamping facilities and two dedicated glamping destinations), there’s been significant interest in venturing to Maryland for a glamping getaway.

Perhaps it’s because of the state’s comfy 56.5°F average temperature or 371.8 sunlight hours each month. Regardless, people want to visit the Free State based on its 1,983 average monthly Google searches for “Maryland glamping” and 5,684 searches for glamping-related terms by residents in the state.

The list continues with Hawaii ranking sixth place (scored 53 out of 100), followed by Massachusetts and New Jersey, which are tied for seventh place (each scored 52.9). It continues with New York (score of 52.3) and North Carolina (score of 50.5), rounding out with Virginia and Georgia, which share tenth place (an equal score of 46.9).

A spokesperson for Glamping Florida, by River Ranch, commented on the study in a press release and pointed out Florida’s impressive lead above the rest.

“With the summer season approaching, investigating America’s glamping hotspots may inspire you to try this unique style of vacation, especially in the warmer states that get plenty of sunlight,” the spokesperson began.
“It is fantastic to see that more and more campsites are offering glamping facilities, as well as the high numbers of dedicated glamping spots across the U.S.
“Florida is renowned for its beautiful weather and vacation vibes, so it’s unsurprising to see it crowned the best destination for glamping.”
