From Infertility to Joy: Alabama Couple Who Adopted Nine Now Expecting a Baby

Enterprise, Ala. WTVY/Gray News – After facing infertility and adopting nine children, an Alabama couple is now expecting a baby.

CJ and Elisha Hodge have always been passionate about adoption and foster care. Elisha shared that growing up, it was common for extra kids to stay with their family for short periods. CJ, who is one of six siblings with four adopted, has always had adoption as part of his life.

Their journey into adoption began unexpectedly. Elisha, who was a preschool teacher, found herself involved in foster care after a student needed a safety plan. This led them to get licensed for foster care, and soon they were taking in children.

Over the years, the Hodges have fostered nearly 25 children and formally adopted nine, ranging in age from 1 to 20. They’ve learned a lot about themselves, their faith, and the challenges of mental health and resources in their state.

During this time, the couple also struggled with infertility. CJ described it as an emotional roller coaster with many nights of tears and questions. After a miscarriage and medical consultations, they took a break and openly discussed their struggles with their children, finding it a valuable learning experience for their family.

Then, to their surprise, Elisha discovered she was pregnant. CJ’s reaction, caught on video, shows his disbelief and joy. The video has received over 4 million views, helping the couple share their story of overcoming infertility and the joy of adoption.

The Hodges hope to inspire others to support foster care. They encourage people to contact local departments or nonprofits to learn how to get involved.

They are thankful for their journey and advise others to appreciate their own paths, no matter the challenges. Their miracle baby is due in November, and their children are excited to welcome a new sibling.
