David Knezevich, a resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has been charged by U.S. federal agents for the kidnapping of his estranged wife, Ana Knezevich, who disappeared three months ago in Spain.
The FBI and other federal authorities apprehended David Knezevich at Miami International Airport, linking him to the Feb. 2 disappearance of his 40-year-old wife from her Madrid apartment, where she had been staying since their separation last year.
David Knezevich, a 36-year-old business owner originally from Serbia, made a brief appearance in Miami federal court and is scheduled for a bond hearing on Friday.
The investigation involves multiple agencies, including the Spanish National Police, Customs and Border Protection, the Diplomatic Security Service, and the FBI, but further details are withheld due to the ongoing nature of the case.
Knezevich’s attorney, Ken Padowitz, has not responded to requests for comment. However, he previously denied any involvement of his client in his wife’s disappearance.
Ana Knezevich, originally from Colombia and a naturalized American, vanished under suspicious circumstances shortly after security cameras at her apartment complex were disabled by an individual wearing a motorcycle helmet.
Despite receiving text messages purportedly from Ana, friends and family doubted their authenticity, believing they were not in her usual style.
The Knezeviches, who have been married for 13 years and own a business together, have faced challenges in their marriage, including a contentious divorce. Ana’s brother mentioned financial disputes as a point of contention in the divorce proceedings.
Despite assertions of cooperation with authorities, questions surrounding Ana Knezevich’s disappearance persist, and her loved ones hope for answers and justice as the investigation progresses.
