Female Passenger Killed in Single-Engine Plane Crash Near Francs Peak, Wyoming

On Sunday, a female passenger was killed in a single-engine plane crash near Francs Peak in Wyoming’s Absaroka Mountain Range, according to Park County Coroner Cody Gortmaker.

The male pilot survived and was taken to a hospital in Billings.

The victim’s name is not being released until her family is notified.

The crash occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. Francs Peak, located about 30 miles southwest of Meeteetse, Wyoming, is the highest point in the Absaroka Range at 13,153 feet.

The plane, an American Champion 8GCBC, was being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The crash caused a small fire in the Shoshone National Forest. By Monday morning, the fire had burned about 1/10 of an acre in a remote area, and firefighters had to hike in to control it.
