Democratic Super PAC Launches $15 Million Ad Campaign on Abortion in Key Swing States

A major Democratic super PAC is making a big push on abortion issues in key battleground states.

American Bridge 21st Century launched a new set of TV and digital ads on Thursday. The $15 million ad campaign, running in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, contrasts Vice President Kamala Harris with former President Donald Trump on abortion. The ads criticize Trump for appointing the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade.

This move highlights how important abortion is for Democrats. Harris has been vocal about this issue, especially during the recent debate where she challenged Trump. Earlier this year, American Bridge planned to focus on various issues, including the economy and democracy, but abortion has become a central theme. Bradley Beychok, co-founder of American Bridge, noted that abortion is a strong issue for Harris and one that resonates with voters.

The new ads aim at white women in suburban and exurban areas of these swing states. This demographic was crucial for Harris in 2020 and will be targeted again in 2024, with American Bridge committing $140 million for the cycle.

One ad features Anna, an OB-GYN from Michigan, sharing her personal story about a difficult abortion decision and criticizing Trump’s stance on the issue. Another ad, from Pennsylvania, features Susan, a nurse practitioner, who voices concerns about Trump’s views on abortion.

These ads are part of a broader strategy that aligns with Harris’s campaign focus on abortion, showcasing personal stories to underline the differences between her and Trump.
