Former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson were assaulted by a group of young men while walking their dog on the Upper East Side on Friday night, according to his spokesperson and law enforcement sources.
The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Second Avenue near East 96th Street when Paterson, 70, and his wife’s 20-year-old son spotted the group of teenagers climbing a fire escape. After the pair asked the youngsters to stop, they were attacked as they walked away.
Paterson’s spokesperson, Sean Darcy, confirmed to The Post that the group had a previous encounter with Paterson’s stepson.
“Both suffered injuries but managed to fend off their attackers,” Darcy stated.
Reports indicate that Paterson sustained a head injury, while his stepson had a more serious facial wound. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
As of late Friday, no arrests had been made.
Paterson, who served as governor from 2008 to 2010, is married to Mary Sliwa, the former wife of Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa.
