Colorado Woman Scammed Out of $20,000 by Fake Geek Squad Email

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. – A Colorado woman was scammed out of nearly $20,000 by criminals pretending to be from Best Buy’s “Geek Squad.”

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the victim received an email saying her Geek Squad subscription was about to expire. The email instructed her to call a “support services” number to fix the issue.

The woman made several calls and followed all the instructions she was given. Unfortunately, she ended up losing over $19,000 in a short amount of time.

Scams using real names or businesses can be very convincing. To protect yourself, always verify such emails by calling the company using the official number from their website, not the one provided in the email.
