As winter weather approaches, municipalities along the Grand Strand are ramping up preparations to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
The Horry County Emergency Management office has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Monday and Tuesday, urging the public to limit outdoor exposure, dress warmly, and take precautions during the expected cold temperatures and potential wintry mix.
In North Myrtle Beach, officials are increasing fire department staffing from Tuesday to Thursday to ensure a swift emergency response during the cold snap.
Additionally, the city’s Public Works Department has already begun pretreating bridges and major roads with salt brine to reduce the risk of ice accumulation, with plans for a second treatment early Tuesday.
Myrtle Beach is also preparing, with SCDOT trucks already brining the roads. The city is advising residents to take precautions, such as bringing in pets, leaving faucets dripping to prevent pipe freezes, and covering outdoor plants to protect them from the cold.
These proactive steps reflect a coordinated effort to address the cold weather and ensure safety across the region.
