The New York Aquarium is inviting families and animal lovers to its first-ever Shark Party, a multi-day celebration that puts these misunderstood ocean inhabitants in the spotlight. Running from July 4 to July 14, the themed event transforms the aquarium plaza into a vibrant, educational festival, all included with regular admission or free for Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) members.
“This is your opportunity to dive into the world of sharks, to learn about their role in ocean health, and leave with a newfound respect,” says Leigh Clayton, Director of the Aquarium.
Packed With Kid-Friendly Learning and Entertainment

Open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Shark Party features a mix of interactive experiences:
- Keeper Talks at Canyon’s Edge in the Ocean Wonders: Sharks! exhibit, showcasing how sharks are cared for.
- Wildlife Theater shows, including “Sharks All Over the World” and “The Zany Adventures of Super Shark,” are scheduled multiple times each day.
- Hands-on fun, such as shark tooth fossil digs, DIY shark headbands, face painting, and crafts that let kids design their own fish to appear in a digital ocean.
- A lively dance party with MC Hammerhead, plus roaming costumed characters to greet guests on the plaza.
Even animal lovers not swooning over sharks can enjoy sea lion performances, penguin chats, and seal feedings, making it a full-day experience for all ages.
Conservation at the Heart of the Fun

More than just entertainment, Shark Party shines a light on shark conservation efforts. Sharks play a vital role in marine ecosystems, and many species are threatened by habitat loss and overfishing. The event’s educational programming aims to inspire a new respect for these apex predators.
WCS manages the aquarium as part of a broader mission to protect wildlife globally. By combining fun and conservation messages — through crafts, theater, and expert talks — the Shark Party encourages visitors to value marine life and their ocean homes.
- Dates & Times: July 4–14, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.
- Admission: Included with regular ticket; free for WCS members (advance timed-ticket registration recommended).
- Where: New York Aquarium, Coney Island Boardwalk, Brooklyn.
- Free add-ons: Member benefits include access to WCS’s four zoos in NYC and support for conservation globally.
Why It Makes a Splash

This inaugural Shark Party arrives at just the right moment when educational outings that blend fun with purpose are more in demand than ever. With summer vacations back in full swing and interest in ocean health rising, the aquarium’s unique angle makes this festival both timely and meaningful.
For local families and visitors, it’s an opportunity to learn, create, and appreciate marine life without long travel or high cost. For the aquarium, it’s a chance to reinforce its conservation mission in a compelling, interactive way.
