Bristol Palin recently shared that she was shocked when her teenage son, Tripp, sent her a six-word text saying he was moving out of their Texas home.
Earlier this month, Bristol, the daughter of former Governor Sarah Palin, explained that her 15-year-old son had decided to move to Alaska to be closer to his dad.
Tripp will now be living with his father, Levi Johnston, and his stepmother, Sunny Johnston, along with his half-sisters Breeze, Indy, and Delta.
He just texted me saying, ‘Hey Mom. I’m not coming back,’” Bristol revealed on the Sex, Lies and Spray Tans podcast.
I was so surprised. At first, I thought, ‘I’m coming to Alaska, we’re not doing this.’ I was so mad, she admitted. It’s still hard for me because it’s always been Tripp and me. This changes so much.
Bristol acknowledged that deep down, she knows her son, who’s almost 16, needs to be near his father as he gets older.
All I can do is hope and pray this is what’s best, she said, adding that she’s considering moving to Alaska herself, where many of her relatives still live.
Part of me wants him with me forever because he’s my best friend, and my kids are my whole world, Bristol added. But I know I can’t be selfish.
Earlier this month, Bristol shared on social media how difficult her son’s move has been for her.
This has been the hardest ‘first day of school’ yet, with a big piece of my heart missing, she wrote. Tripp decided to finish high school in Alaska to be closer to his dad and our family.
If you know Tripp, you know he loves hunting and fishing, and I can’t blame him for wanting to go back home, she added.
Bristol also shared a picture of her two younger daughters, Sailor Grace and Atlee Bay, as she expressed her mixed emotions.
As tough as this decision was, it’s not about what I want, she explained. His relationship with his dad is more important than my own wishes to have him with me forever.
Bristol shares daughters Sailor Grace, 8, and Atlee Bay, 7, with her ex-husband Dakota Meyer.
