House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries D-NY accused individuals of sending bomb threats to several Democratic lawmakers on Thanksgiving Day, claiming the threats were signed with MAGA.
In a statement, Jeffries called these threats unacceptable and demanded that Congress provide the highest level of protection for its members. He emphasized that these actions have no place in a civilized society.
On Thursday, nearly all of Connecticut’s congressional delegation received bomb threats. This included Senator Chris Murphy and Representatives Jim Himes, Rosa DeLauro, John Larson, Joe Courtney, and Jahana Hayes.
The threats varied, with some mentioning a pipe bomb placed in mailboxes, while others referred to swatting. All threats were signed MAGA, according to a spokesperson from Jeffries’ office.
Jeffries’ team has been in close contact with the Sergeant at Arms to ensure that lawmakers are protected and that safety measures are increased.
Rep. Seth Magaziner D-RI also shared on social media that he received a bomb threat at his home, though no bomb was found.
These threats follow similar incidents earlier in the week, where Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and former Rep. Lee Zeldin, both Trump nominees for ambassadorships, were targeted by bomb and swatting threats.
President Joe Biden, speaking outside a bookshop in Nantucket, Massachusetts, confirmed that the FBI is investigating the threats against both Democratic lawmakers and Trump nominees, stating, We’re working that hard, the FBI.
