President Joe Biden recently visited the Coast Guard Sector New York in Staten Island for a “friendsgiving” event with service members and their families. While serving food, he cheekily grabbed a Hawaiian roll from the buffet line and took a few bites, sparking laughter among the crowd.
Later, he humorously claimed to have been “fired,” referring to the decision made by fellow Democrats in July to discourage his re-election bid due to concerns over his age and mental acuity.
Biden also shared a lighthearted moment while addressing the group, explaining how Secret Service protocols would close off the roads around the event, teasing that it might result in losing all support if he stayed too long.
Reflecting on his connection to the Coast Guard, Biden recalled a high school classmate who went on to become a quarterback at the Coast Guard Academy, joking that he was an all-state player who joined in 1912, though he didn’t name the individual.
Earlier in the day, Biden continued the holiday tradition of pardoning turkeys at the White House before heading to Nantucket, where he and his family plan to spend Thanksgiving at the estate of billionaire businessman David Rubenstein.
