Ballistics Evidence in Jonah Adams Case: Juror Removal Slows Chesterfield Trial

Chesterfield County, Va. — WRIC — The trial for Jonah Adams, who is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Joanna Cottle, her 13-year-old daughter, and his own four-year-old twins in 2022, is now halfway through.

Adams, 35, from Maryland, is being tried for the murders that took place in November 2023.

On Friday, the trial experienced a delay because one juror was removed after the defense raised concerns about their attention during witness testimonies. This made the proceedings slower than on previous days.

The focus of Friday’s testimonies was on ballistics. Firearm examiners and experts from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives testified. They examined 34 cartridge cases, 29 bullets, and a disassembled rifle, determining that all cartridge cases were fired from the same rifle. Prosecutors emphasized the experts’ qualifications and will continue with more witness testimonies on Monday morning.
