AT&T Southeast Strike Ends with New Union Contracts: A Historic Agreement

CHARLOTTE, N.C. WBTV – The Communications Workers of America CWA and AT&T Southeast and AT&T West have reached tentative agreements for new union contracts, ending a significant 30-day strike in the Southeast. This strike, the longest telecommunications strike in the region’s history, involved union members from nine states.

The Southeast agreement covers 17,000 workers across various roles within AT&T’s wireline telecommunications network. Key aspects of the contract include a 19.33% wage increase over five years, with additional increases for specific roles, and a revised health care premium structure that stabilizes costs in the initial years before introducing modest increases.

AT&T West’s agreement follows the rejection of a previous deal on September 6. Both agreements are expected to be ratified in the coming weeks. AT&T’s COO Jeff McElfresh emphasized that the agreements aim to provide competitive pay and benefits while supporting the company’s position in the broadband industry.

AT&T employees in the Southeast are set to return to work on September 16.
